A New Chapter

Around the new year, I started having blogging ideas again. I didn’t post anything for most of 2025 – I got overwhelmed every time I tried to assemble a month in review post, which is all I had been writing for a while. Part of the problem was feeling like Don’t Stop Believing no longer fit me. It was a relic from an old life, an old time before I was a perpetually exhausted working mom and the world was a dumpster fire. I considered starting a Substack or Patreon, because everyone is doing it, but what would it be about? I’ve never been good at focusing on one Thing, and I’m at creative rock bottom these days. I need a fresh, pressure-free place where I can just talk about whatever interests me or makes me happy. So I came up with a new concept, and here we are.

Sun & Soul is a tribute to my “dual citizenship” – Memphian (the soul) and Floridian (the sun). These two identities run deep. While I only actually lived in South Florida as a kid, I’ve always maintained family ties there and visited often. Now I’m reliving my childhood through my own kid, and it means so much to me to be able to expose him to the ocean and boats and Salt LifeTM from an early age. I’m also proud to be raising a Memphis boy who knows all the local landmarks, is obsessed with the zoo and FedEx Forum, claims Goodnight Memphis as one of his favorite books, and could spell TIGERS by the age of two.

To start, I plan on posting monthly book reviews and regular travel recaps (because we travel a lot!), in addition to beauty and fashion, home, and even introspective and faith stuff when I feel like it. I will try not to be too precious or feel like something has to meet certain criteria for me to write about it. This new blog is for my own enrichment and entertainment, and for my 10 loyal readers who were excited to see my year-end posts at the holidays. I’m taking it back to the old school (’cause I’m an old fool who’s so cool). Join me!!!
